The Blue Ridge
Scavenger Sweep

UX PROJECT: Mobile SITE
A mobile website focused on creating a connected fan community for a fictitious men's lacrosse team known as the Blue Ridge Scavengers.

This site allows users to share the excitement of game day, connect with one another, and contribute to a growing, fan-driven space.

Project Details

Problem Statement

There is a need for a fan website geared to rally fans toward a fictitious, new expansion National Lacrosse Team called the Blue Ridge Scavengers based in Asheville, North Carolina.

A fan would use this site to communicate with other fans around fan events, game plays, and fan-created artwork.

Goals

This mobile site is geared to spread awareness of the new (mock) men's lacrosse team.

This site will try to increase the community’s engagement with local sports, provide opportunities to join fun, family-friendly events, and be a part of a positive fan culture by sharing sports stats and game updates.

Research Conducted
  • Open AI's ChatGPT concept ideation on fan sites and users
  • Competitor audit across lacrosse websites: UNC Lacrosse's Keeping It Heel, Tar Heel Blog, and Tar Heel Illustrated.
  • Comparative research on new expansion sports' team websites: Seattle Kraken Fan Site, Kraken Chronicle

Target Audience

Primary:

  • Adults 18 years or older, who live in Western North Carolina particularly around the Asheville area.
  • They live mountainous areas and often times in small towns where there is a strong art presence and emphasis on supporting the local community.
  • They may be ingle individuals or in relationships, who possibly have children.

Secondary:

  • As the fan base grows and more people learn of this new team, the secondary audience includes adults who are from North Carolina or another surrounding state in the south east.

User Personas:

To determine more about what each user's behavior and needs could be on this fan site, user personas were created. View them below.

Project Plan

Create a mobile fan app for The Blue Ridge Scavenger Sweep fan base. Present opportunities for fans to learn about game schedules and scores, fan events, and communicate with other fans.

The Design Process

1. Sitemap

An overview of all the pages created for Mindful Support Space's website.

2. Wireframes

Here are a few wireframes that each represent one mobile site page. They outline placement of logo, navigational hamburger menu, welcome messages, photos, and textual information.

3. Brand Identity Design

The fan site visually starts to get put together here! The raccoon logo and color scheme was determined based on what could be envisioned for team colors.

The rough, block typeface matches the sports' theme, too.

4. The First Prototype

The images below are a glimpse of a few of the website prototype's pages. Accessibility standards, such as readability, ample contrast, and ease of navigation, were considered.

Testing & Revised Prototypes

Usability Studies Conducted

I held two moderated usability studies to test how intuitive each iteration of the prototype was in July 2025. Based on user feedback, respective changes were made to the prototype.

First Usability Test: Chat Forums

This usability study determined how functional the chat forums were on this fan website. This study’s results impacted whether the forums' features change in size, color, or orientation. These results also determined if additional features will help make the forums easier and morefun for fans to use.

First Usability Test's Results

Users completed the chat forum tasks successfully. They noted a few features overall that they saw where improvements could be made, such as with more white space needed in the site's footer.

Second Usability Test: Fan Events

This usability study determined how effective the fan events page was at displaying event information and how adequate the fan event proposal feature was. This study’s results impacted whether the layout of the fan events’ page. Furthermore, this study determined how efficient the fan event proposal form is and whether more details need to be collected for the event submission.

Second Usability Test's Results

Users successfully completed the fan event proposal form and felt that no further changes or additions were needed. However, there was feedback that the fan events' page was a bit mundane and didn't spark interest as much as other pages did. Suggestions made were to use different text colors to make the information pop!

Updates Made

1. Adding more space between footer links.
2. Creating an inline section versus an overlay for the new chat box.
3. Simplify the new chat box layout by removing profile photo and name.
4. Change text color, increase text thickness, and add highlight colors to the fan events' page to help make the page more enaging and enhance readability.

Future Considerations

  • Create a more modern navigational dropdown menu and buttons to make the site have a cutting-edge, sports feel.
  • Add more white space to further increase ease of reading the site.

Updates Made on the Prototype

After a series of user testing, the prototype is updated based on overall user feedback.
